England wins Four Nations Championships |
|

The Veterans’ Four Nations Championships in the age groups 55, 60 and 65 for both Men and Women were played at David Lloyd Renfrew, Scotland, in a most enjoyable and highly competitive event meticulously managed by John Stevenson of Tennis Scotland, the referee. The format of two tie-break sets with a champions’ tie break to decide if needed, produced some very close results and over the three days numerous matches went the distance. Ascrutiny of the England scores shows that the players won thirtenn of these out of sixteen played!
The overall result was a win for England when four of the age group teams ended in first position in their groups. They were the Men’s 55, 60 and 65 and the Women’s 55. The remaining Women’s teams achieved second place to Scotland whose team included strong international players in Marjory Love and Christine Lockhart in the 60s and Frances MacLennan in the 65s. The table below shows the points awarded (four for a win, three for second place and so on) and how all the nations finished.

Selection of Senior Teams for New Zealand The selectors wish to make it known that selection for the Seniors teams to take part in the ITF World Team Championships in New Zealand, beginning on 21 February 2011, will take place after the Grass Court Championships at Wimbledon this August. Selections will be announced in early September to allow ample time for making the necessary travel and accommodation bookings.
It is suggested that players who aspire to be considered for selection should make every effort to compete in one of the two remaining events this year - the British Open Veterans' Clay Court Championships at Bournemouth, 29 May to 5 June, or the British Veterans' Grass Court Championships at Wimbledon, 8 to 14 August.
Veterans' Lawn Tennis Club of Great Britain
The VLTC of GB has decided that the membership will in future will include the 35s age category upwards, both for Men and Women. Anyone interested should contact the Secretary, Graham Neale, at

Seniors' successes in Mexico |
|

Great news! Ten Seniors teams went to Mexico City to represent Great Britain in the ITF World Team Championships and six of them are returning with medals: one GOLD, two silver and three bronze!
The Women’s 35 team, Karen Cross, Lucie Ahl, Julie Hobbs and Melissa Russell, competing in the Suzanne Lenglen Cup, was seeded in second place. They first won their round robin group by beating the USA and Turkey, both by the margin of 3-0, then went into a play-off with the two other group winners and beat them both – top seeded France 2-0 and Spain 2-1. The captain, Karen, said “The whole team performed really well the whole week and we were delighted to beat the defending champions, France, to become the first 35 Ladies’ team to win the World Championships”.
